The Library

To begin to write about this reading is almost to say i understood little of what was written. It seemed farfetched in the beginning but began to talk about religion and the alphabet. It spoke of god and interactions among man but claimed to have flaws in instances. The multiple levels of hexagons seemed to speak of a library in which i refer to, such as the one at UWF. Although its contents might be significantly different, im sure most of our books are in english with close to 25 characters. The library claimed to contain the facets of the universe in totality. It is hard to believe that if one could know the knowledge of these books in combination they could understand our universe. I found it interesting that it brought up the dedication to worshipping a book even if people don't understand it completely. People spending time and dedicated hours to something not fully understood. The formality and precise mathematical integration of these books about the alphabet and the comma and period was interesting in a simple way.

Good Interaction Design

Obviously good design relates to the ability for the user to interact with the object flawlessly. Users will hopefully trust a website or something like Amazon.com. Buttons in Amazon and processes occur and the user needs to feel secure. Appropriate behaviours are needed to happen for the user to feel un-interrupted. Smart behaviours are instances in which you sign on to your email and write to someone, of course when you write you dont have to write to and from; it is already occuring from your current session on your email account, therefore it will be sent from your email user name. These processes occur because they can be manipulated in the computer to enhance the use of computers and the ability to create a faster working area on a "desktop". There is timelines in to which the user may become unsatisfied with the actions. Immediate responses occur in .1 seconds, and the user feels a success in their action. A stammer occurs if the processes occurring takes .1 to 1 second. Interruption occurs when the process takes longer than a second. The user sometimes might feel a lag but soon find progress. They might question the process but eventually it becomes successful. Disruption occurs after 10 seconds and the user feels completely disrupted from their action and process that was suppose to occur. Computers need to be user friend in the sense that the world these days are becoming more digital and the ability for the "average" person may never completely understand new technologies, nor learn them.

Interaction Laws

Technology has been advancing on such an exponential growth this recent decade. Computers have been getting faster and faster. Steve Jobs thought of creating a click to the ipod so that the user felt engaged and could recognize motion. Moores Law stated that computers would grow faster and faster each year by 2. Computers year by year began to grow in speed and capabilities according to the law, his prediction was very accurate. Fitts Law states that button need be necessary and  user friendly. No tricks or mis-clicks need to occur because the user needs to be un-interrupted by motion or action. Hicks Law states that web-pages or other types of mediums need to be categorized. Categories need to be useful and be capable of narrowing down items or decisions. Buttons need a purpose and the reaction needs to be accurate to the user's expectation.
Poka-Yoke principle created a realm of user friendly devices in which USB and HDMI cables are not the same shape or size; therefore computers and TVs can be easily used by the consumer. Eventually, it came down to physical interaction to create actions on computer based technologies. The trash can deletes files. The desktop is the station for which actions and interactions occur. The folders are categories for organization.

Definitions

Design is a noun informally refering to a plan or convention for the construction of an object or a system. As a designer it is important to consider the many aspects and aesthetics of design. For example: Proportion structure size and weight are important when contemplating design and its use and user. For example, a Mac laptop is aesthetically beautiful and the user just wants to touch it and use it.

Interaction is a kind of action that occurs as two or more objects have an effect upon one another. The idea of a two-way effect is essential in the concept of interaction, as opposed to a one-way casual effect.

Reading 1

The reading was interesting as far as the breaking down of technology in a sense. Everything we use has a purpose, and these purposes are why these objects and technology are created. The elements of design are quite numerous. Proportion structure size and weight are all contributing factors to elements of design. It is sometimes referred to as packaging. How something looks, the cost of the item, durability and strength are all characteristics designers need to keep in mind and consider while designing anything. One of the most important things to create is user friendliness. If the item or object is hard to use, why would someone want to buy it unless is something like a puzzle. The product should be enjoyable and approachable. The color should display its purpose, therefore something light and fluffy shouldn't have a grotesque texture or color. People interact with things daily, and design is without a doubt behind these interactions, and drives to interact with things.
